Topic:  What are the chances of a new boom in commodities?

What are the chances of a new boom in commodities? With the global financial crisis now retreating from view, the global economy is on the mend. But will conditions pick-up where they left off in mid 2008 with soaring commodity prices or will recovery prove more gradual? China and India both have huge populations and both economies are industrialising. If advanced economies rebound quickly, the two influences could lead to sharply higher commodity prices over the next few years. A new boom in commodities would have major implications for Australia, especially the resources sector.

When: Wednesday 7 April
Where: Melbourne City Conference Centre, 333 Swanston Street, Melbourne
Time: 12 noon - 1pm.  Please arrive by 12.00 noon for start
Cost: $5 (incl. GST).

Presented by: Craig James of CommSec

Craig's current role is Chief Economist, Commonwealth Securities, interpreting 'big picture' economic and financial trends for customers, clients and staff. Previously he was Chief Economist at Colonial and has worked at the Australian Financial Review as a senior writer.  As well as providing presentations to staff and clients and commentaries on financial and economic trends, Craig appears regularly in the electronic and print media.  Craig has worked in banking, finance and journalism for almost 30 years and holds Bachelor and Master degrees in Commerce (Economics).  Both degrees were undertaken at University of NSW.

2010 Finance Careers Day - TBC

PDF | Print | E-mail

As the City Flinders campus is home to the majority of the Finance-based courses at VU, FISS will be running a Careers Day of its own, specifically for Business students.

FISS is creating a one-stop shop for students' to gain advice and insight into getting employment after graduation (and during their studies). The day is focussed not just on the Graduate Programs; realistically the majority of graduates entering the workforce will be seeking entry-level graduate roles.

With this in mind, we are providing a range of activities for you in order to give a richer and wider source of information specific to your chosen industry.

Keep checking back here for confirmed companies attending the day.
